Did you ever stop to wonder how everything in the universe works? How your mind and body work? How two cells (a sperm and egg) can come together and in forty weeks create some forty billion cells, ten toes and ten fingers, beautiful eyes, a smile, an ability to feed and a nervous system to control all functions, including digestion, respiration, elimination and sexual reproduction later in life and so much more? Some of you may have, some may not. Let’s consider it right now.
The first principle of Chiropractic upon which all other principles are founded is:
‘There is a universal intelligence in all matter, which continuously gives to it all its properties and actions, thus maintaining it in existence.’
This means that there is a power that governs everything that happens in our beautiful universe, and this same power governs you. All the natural phenomena that happen around you from the sun rising, to rivers flowing, flowers blooming and snow falling, these are not a product of random chance or luck; everything is governed by this intelligence we call universal intelligence. The entire universe is filled with universal intelligence, also called God, the unified field, the matrix, the explicate order and the field of all potentiality. Universal intelligence is the cause of all causes. It is source. It is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent.
How is it that a rock is a rock and not a stick? A rock is a specific expression of organization maintained in existence by universal intelligence. Organization always bespeaks intelligence. As humans we are highly organized beings and so therefore it would make sense that all living vertebrates have an inborn intelligence within, we call this innate intelligence, which is a subset of universal intelligence.
The root meaning of innate is inborn, or existing in a person or animal from birth. Every living person has innate intelligence, or he or she wouldn’t be living. Every organic function-your heart beating, your lungs breathing, your stomach digesting, your kidneys filtering your blood, your nose smelling, ears hearing and eyes taking in light and interpreting those images in your brain-is proof positive that this intelligence exists inside of you. The large majority of people are not aware of this superb power and go about their lives living unconscious of its incredible role in their existence.
Cut your finger and it heals, cut the finger of a corpse and it does not heal.
Why? Life heals because the body is a self-healing and self-regulating organism. The brain and nervous system is the master control system of the body and it is through the nervous system that your innate intelligence flows. Every aspect of the human experience is processed through the nervous system and interference to that not only compromises your physical well-being, but it can also have psycho emotional consequences because it distorts your perception of the world and limits your ability to respond to the environment. When this happens to a significant number of people in a society, you have a sick society. What we do as Chiropractors is locate and correct the cause of that interference.
Interference with the transmission of nerve flow can affect how our body adapts to universal forces, which are a product of universal intelligence.
Things like wind, rain, snow and ice break things down over time. For you, prolonged sitting, being hit with a rock, and even stress are all universal forces and are deemed to be harmful to living systems unless deemed otherwise by innate intelligence. There can never be proper health expression without organization and we know the natural laws of the universe tend towards disorganization; we call this entropy (the law of decay). So if you have nerve interference this can affect the flow of innate intelligence within your body and will always result in a lessening of the body’s innate ability to express health at full potential.
