#031 – Life in Elmira – Eby Family Honey with Bob Eby

031 - Life in Elmira - Eby Family Honey with Bob Eby by Elmira Family Chiropractic

Eby Family Honey is owned by Bob & Laura Eby, along with their children. They continue to grow their apiary with their 1st yard is on the family farm, north of Waterloo, and their 2nd location is at their home in Moorefield.

They keep a close eye on our bees in the spring and fall, so that they can be left alone during the summer days. As Bob will explain in this episode, bees are very self sufficient and amazing workers, but they need to be checked to make sure they have all the nutrition to survive.

More about Bob and Eby Family Honey:

It all started with an impulse. He had read an article about the concern for bees, and had watched some videos about how bees were in danger. As he dug a little deeper and realized that the Ontario Bee Association was holding some courses in a few weeks, and on an impulse, he signed up to take the course. The course fascinated him, and after a discussion with his wife, he bought and set up two hives within the week and so their story began.

He was told that the first season would not reap much of a harvest. But his first summer I had some very busy bees and some great weather. He was surprised to see the boxes literally overflowing with honey. So he found myself bottling my very first harvest of honey. Family, friends and neighbours were excited to receive a jar. He sold out within a weekend, and knew that he needed to expand the following year. Now 4 years in, they moved to Moorefield because more space was needed to make work and family life easier.
